I walked to the Cherry casino in Moscow from the new American Embassy when I was there. I also managed to walk to Alexander Blok (which was a hole in the wall riverboat) and Chuck Norris's place up the hill. Cherry was the nicest by far. As I was leaving the guy in front of me cashed in some chips at the cage and I managed to see some 5 Ruble chips in the rack. Since a dollar was 28 rubles at the time I figured that it would be a good chip to get since they didn't cost anything. I managed to get a few from him.
On that trip we were visiting my wifes sister and her husband who worked in the Embassy. He was in charge of rebuilding the Embassy when they discovered all of the bugs in the building materials. To solve the problem they just ripped off the top few floors and started over. Every stick of wood (and everything else) that went into the reconstruction was sent from America in bonded containers. The funny thing is that the building next door must have 500 antennas pointed at our embassy that you can see from the street. We also went to St. Petersburg where I hit as many casinos as I could. Wonderful trip and I remember having the sister in law send back two full boxes of casino chips.
