Was very smart. Most people don't know that that if an airline makes ANY changes to to your itinery they will probably let you make changes with no fee. It is a great way to get out of a horrible connection ticket or to go from multi-stop flights to Non-stops. I have made changes when the airline changed one of my flights by ONE MINUTE. And did another when the only change was the flight number. Like in many things it just never hurts to ask.
