Top Photo Is A Copy
In Response To: The Lux "Floating Casino" ()

Ruben -- Telephoto print at top is a line image used by news agencies to transmit photographs. Lines are created on a wet-based paper and wiped with a blade to show white and black lines that make up the image. These line images were put on a photo-lathe and converted to a dot image for letterpress production. Later, the line images were re-shot using a sheet film camera that used a dot halftone to get black, white and gray reproduction. My guess, is the photo is a copy made by the same type camera I just described, but the negative was turned into a positive. That's probably more than you wanted to know, but it's been a long time since I have seen one of those old wiper-blade line images that were transmitted over a telephone line. Hope this helps.
