It's been called to my attention during a few phone conversations, yesterday, that there are far more CCGTCC members who are in favor of a name change than I thought there was... and it seems as though some of those have been in the club for over 15 years. During one conversation, a fellow chipper even quoted exactly some of the remarks I've made here regarding other chip collectors who do net even collect casino chips, but rather poker/faro ["gambling"] chips such as Ivory, Mother-of-Pearl and Clay Composition. Those who attend Old West shows and the like know for a fact that very few of those who collect chips other than casino chips are CCGTCC members. One suggestion was that if a new name were to be considered, that the word "CASINO" (kind of vulgar to some thinking) should be struck, and the word "GAMBLING" (not gaming; too close to casino) should be included in the name. Nobody cared to give any other suggestions except that if a change was considered it should be brought up with members -- and to a vote before membership. I'm now thinking of the possibility of attracting other gambling collectors; coin operated/trade stimulator, dice (casino/non-casino) vintage playing cards; types of gambling devices such as put and take, vintage board games and last but not least -- the many gambling historians, authors and educators (universities) who are out there; most with websites. Wouldn't it be nice to have them, too, become part of us... If we're going to put on that thinking cap... let's do it where it will give us far more possibilities to explore within the many gambling areas of interest.
Thanks for youe post, James...
