Hey, A.J., my mother-in-law was from Tyler Texas.
She was Miss Texas, and runner up and voted Miss Photogenic in either the Miss America or Miss USA pagent.
I can never remember which one.
I think around 1949-50?
Billie Hazel Shaw!
She later was signed by 20th Century Fox, and went on to be in 7 films, all "B" movies.
One was with David Niven.
And everyone back then saw her everywhere: she was the "Pabst Blue Ribbon girl"in the early '50s, whose picture was in every magazine and on thousands of billboards all across the Country!
And became part of the "in crowd" in Hollywood back in the day.
Best friends with all the celebs like Sinatra, Loyd Bridges, Jack Benny, etc., too many to name.
They were at every one of Jack Benny's Christmas parties, and had so many stories to tell.
She was best friends with Barbra Marx and was actually with her when Frank called from back east asking Barbra to marry him.
She told her to say yes!!!
And a little story about how Frank became "Ol' Blue Eyes":
My late Father-in-Law also had blue eyes and Barbra started calling him "Ol' Blue Eyes" long before she hooked up with Frank, when she was still married to one of the Marx brothers (I also keep forgetting which one).
So he was actually the first "Ol' blue eyes", until Frank took over that title when Barbra married him and started calling Frank that.
Boy have I got some stories to tell ... my in-laws knew and hung out with all the "movers & shakers" of the day, back then.
Anyway, whenever I hear Tyler Texas I can't help but think about her.
What a life they had !!!!
