While I am not familiar with your specific example, I am familiar with two dis-simlar plastics being placed against eachother and a chemical reaction occurs that causes softening (melting) of the more rigid item. Fishermen are very familiar with gummy-like worms touching the hard plastic dividers in a tackle box.
It looks like the chemical that kept the flip pliable, affected the hard, plastic-based (probably some form of a petro-chemical) material of the jeton.
I'm a big believer in mylar as being an inert material.
