I had been thinking about going to a convention a couple of times but never made it. I just wanted to check it out as I did not collect chips at the time, I was a coin collector. Then in September of 1995 a good friend of mine who lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia called me & asked me to go to the Four Queens where there was a chip show going on. We had met in the early 80's when he was living here. After moving back to Nova Scotia, he still came out for a month every year for the World Series of Poker.
He started collecting poker chips once the Horseshoe released their $2.50 set of past main event champions. So, he wanted me to pick up the latest addition to that set for him. I ended up not only picking up that chip for him, but bought one for myself along with the rest of the $2.50 chips to complete the set. I was then a chip collector!
I got on the computer & found two groups that talked about chip collecting. They were Compuserve & Prodigy. I also met Greg Susong at that time. Then in December of 1995 I joined the & will be a member for 16 years this coming December.
I have a LOT of chips that I have collected over those almost 16 years. But the friendships I have made over that same time span are worth more than those chips will ever be.
