Doug,
Here are some of my ideas for the show.
First of all, if anyone volunteers to help with the convention (any task or job), they should have free access to all the events/shows/etc. They are already working for free, don't make them pay on top of that - you will not get many volunteers if you do.
I haven't seen any advertising for the conventions yet, so here is my 2 cents worth. The needs to start considering more, smarter, better and more strategic advertising: word of mouth - taxi drivers, bus drivers, concierges, hosts in the Las Vegas area - this is free; billboards - one in all four corners of the Vegas area a couple of months in advance; newspapers; magazines other than the club magazine - how about those little catalogs in the back of the taxis or the airline magazines; some well placed signs at a few key airports; radio spots; maybe a small feature/commercial on TV. The advertising must also be more eye-catching, more colorful, more humourous - there are artists within the club already ~ see what they can come up with. Also, focus the advertising on Gambling and Casino Memorabilia.
Most of this won't be cheap, I know, but this organization needs to grow and the word has got to get out there. If the club grows so will the conventions... I'm already bringing one additional person to the convention this year that is not a club member.
