I think you need to tap the F8 key continously when it boots up to get the safe mode screen. I had what sounds like a similiar virus a few years ago and I clicked on the "download PC cleaner" link and that is what actually loaded the virus onto my computer. I had to do a complete reformat as even the computer expert could not save my hard drive. Really nasty bug.
