Agree with Tammy to avoid the strip.

South Point is very nice. The Boyd Properties of Sam's Town and Orleans are under-rated, are inexpensive, and very friendly. Downtown, the Golden Nugget is the nicest, and room rates are cheap right now. My kids loved swimming there with the sharks.

If you want to stay on the strip, and don't mind spending around $200 per night, I would recommend Mandalay Bay. Great pool area for the kids with a wave pool and lazy river and you can take the tram to NY,NY and Excalibur. Only negative I had with Mandalay Bay is the casino had no vibe, whatsoever.
