Here are the Sahara Reno coin inlay chips I have (except for the $2.50 in another album). I'd appreciate comments on these in several areas:
[list]
[*] James' book says the black/6 purple chip is "Unique". TCR rates it as only a $50 chip, but indicates there is another 100 that is purple with 6 split black edge spots. The one I have sold on eBay recently for about $100. Is there really another with colors reversed and split edge spots?
[*] TCR indicates there are two $5 chips, one "red" and one "dark red". Does anyone have both? Can you post a scan comparing them? Larry Hollibaugh's "Reno" site shows only one 5.
[*] My two black/6 red $100's both have sharp edges (not beveled), but one has a polished insert and the other has one with concentric circles. Can I definitively say these are both genuine? I don't think Carl Osborne was the only one that BudJones sent polished coin inlays to; many other casinos have both varieties. Larry Hollibaugh's site doesn't show the purple chip.
[*] Finally, it has been known for years that although Sahara obsolete chips have been generally available in large quantities to the collector market, the higher-denomination Sahara Reno chips are not. Where did they go? Has there been a recent find? Recent dig?
