I don't mean to start rumors, but Ive seen a large amount of comments on the Sahara Hotels' facebook page over the last week or so hinting at a closure by this fall, and possibly as early as this May.
One user was told by a Sahara dealer, another states many of the vendors have not been paid since last summer, many many questions to Sahara went unanswered for quite awhile not acknowleged or denied.
Another said with the closing of towers/shows/restaurants it spoke for itself. We know the buffet closed 14 months' ago, and one tower was closed a bit later, but I don't know if it re-opened.
The last time I was there, it looked like the caravan cafe was also dark, and todays visit to the website showed no sign of the new Striptease show.
They killed the 2X points slot rewards on mondays and fridays just after new years.
I haven't played there since they wiped out the slot promo, but I cant help wanting to spend a little more time there just in case? Actually, when I go, I spend more time walking around looking at the remaining original areas, and trying to find out where the original casbah lounge was- (where Dean Martin sang 'Aint that a kick in the head' in Oceans 11). As near as I can tell, the low ceiling area where the poker room is was where the original lobby/casino was.
I know these hard times are even rougher for any hotel north of the Wynn, but I sure will hate if the Sahara falls like the Frontier and Stardust did, and the Riviera seems lucky to even still be open itself.
Anyone have any info?
