Sahara as of today 3-2-11

I just got home from spending a hour or so walking around the Sahara- I really didnt notice anything different than the last time I was there.

The posts on their Facebook page state the shows are closed- I saw posters and various ads around the casino for the shows but didnt notice whether or not they were selling any tickets for them.

The Caravan Cafe has a gate closed across the entrance, with a sign just inside it saying closed for renovation, with a curtain behind that so you cant see in. I cant remember ever seeing the door to the house of Lords steakhouse open in the last year, so I dont know the current situation there....

The entire BJ pit at the entrance to the Nascar Cafe was closed and all tables were covered. Seeing half of the BJ tables closed in the main pit is nothing new, I have only seen them all open and playing one time- During Bike Week last October- (Sahara was the host hotel)

The players club DID have the free spin machine running and it appeared their computers were running- might have been a glitch in the system when the FB user claimed it was all shut down. I couldnt verify if they were printing vouchers or rewards.

Casbar lounge is usually dark and empty during the day, but lately when Ive been there at night, even on a weekend, its been used as a karaoke bar (gag!, IMO) No live music for months.

All in all, it looked like just another wednesday afternoon on the north strip- SLOW. I am, however skeptical whether or not the Sahara FB page is telling the whole truth about everything being OK with the hotel. If they have in fact not been paying their vendors and shuttling budgets earmarked for Sahara to other SBE owned properties, then closure is a sure thing in the near future, which is definetly a very disapointing thing for such a historic Vegas hotel.
