I've been collecting dovetails for quite a few years and I've only found three basic types (shown below). Scans show obverse/reverse, one above the other. I can associate only one of them with TCR descriptions. James lists only three, outside of errors and a unique chip. There is, of course, a red and a green tail version of each, as there is for every dovetail produced.

My suspicion is that differences in size of of the bird are just stamping variations (combinations of heat and pressure of the press).

Can one of TCR authors give us some pics of the chips that they catalog, hopefully with data supplied by the collector who proposed them as varieties?
