This came up as a function of Jim Reilly's wearing of a string necklace from which he dangled an Excalibur, $1 chip, in a slab, just like the ones shown below. As you may recall, Jim had used a drill to put a hole through both the slab and the chip, so that they could be hung on the string necklace. I distinctly recall seeing Jim at the Convention wearing that necklace and for quite some time, all of his posts here on TheChipBoard included an image of the drilled slab/chip.
As I mentioned, I had asked about the apparent contradiction and as I recall the answer given was along the lines of...
Those are only "samples" of slabs and since the chips are not graded, they are not considered to be slabs.
PLEASE NOTE, my reply here is not meant to imply that Jim Reilly answered my question, and in fact, I could not specifically recall exactly who provided me the reply, however, I should still have the email message, but it is on an older computer that I have not used for several years and I would need some time to locate the message.
But let me ask you this... Do you consider these items (the ones pictured below) to be examples of the type of items that the Slab-Free Chapter does not want to have in existence and therefore should be broken out of the cases?
