They are not really protected except that you need to provide ID before the casino will give you any comps from the card. I would imagine that some unscrupulous people use the higher rated cards to gain entrance to parking or premium club rooms illegally. But I always thought that if a player is good enough to have a highly rated card then he is probably well know at the casino and anyone else using his card could be arrested.
