I have an external hard drive as well as the one in my computer!

1. How do I copy an entire folder from one to the other while leaving the original behind?

2. This morning my external hard drive failed to initialize and I almost died right there and then, but I unplugged it and plugged it back in and I was back in business. What happened? And do I need to worry?
