He had a per-piece price more than what I wanted to pay. So... before I asked how much for the four (and three match book covers (which were a quarter each)) I set a price that I would counter offer to. When he said he would throw-in the covers for nothing and set the price down to that same number I had in mind, I just said "OK!"

So I really think is was "fair" to both of us!
