There are several reasons why I feel it's best for me to do this.
1. Expertise: Greg's message board is written in a software language called Perl and runs under Unix based operating system. I've been a Windows based software developer for over 20+ years but have zero expertise in Unix or Perl. Teaching this old dog new tricks is something that I've found to be very difficult. I've had a very hard time implementing changes that I felt was necessary to keep the boards running and basically am "firing" myself!
2. Time: I switched employers at the start of this year with the hopes that my overtime would taper off. Basically I'm doing the same job but working directly for our client. The work load has not tapered off and I'm still working the same crazy hours as before. As a result, I am finding hard to devote the time the message boards and the chip guide sites require.
3. Content of the Chip board: As we all know Greg wanted the chip board to be an open forum for which all of us can discuss almost anything we want. It was my goal to run the board exactly as Greg would have wanted it ran. I believe that when Greg felt threads or specific individuals were out-of-line, he had the power to step in and intervene when he thought it was necessary. When Carol asked me to take over these message boards, I felt I had the same power but yet some individuals seemed to think otherwise. Also there are those that accused me of censorship when I was only trying to reign in threads and individuals whom I felt caused a negative impact on this board and hobby by constantly stirring up political arguments. I felt that while a great many people here supported me there were those that made it clear to me I was doing the chipboard a disservice by intervening in such threads. I really don't have the time or motivation to continue to fight those that oppose me on this subject. This was the final straw that told me it was time to let someone else jump in and take over.
It is not my intent stir up debate about what was right or wrong. I am only being honest to everyone here why I choose to step aside. Let's instead focus our support to David while he accepts the challenges ahead.
Thanks to everyone who gave me support over the past several months. I did apprecate that very much.
