I agree though that people have to prioritise....is rail travel something worth subsidising? I think yes, but it all depends on how long the list is of things that need support, and I expect that rail travel will slowly move down the list in years to come (as it has done in the last couple of decades). Similar here in the UK, and while we do still subsidise more, that is largely because we're a smaller country where most commuting into large cities (especially London) is done by train as the road system will never cope here with the numbers.

And I just love the idea of train travel anyway so I guess I am biased! Still intend making that journey over the Rockies one day while it is still possible.
