Sorry to respond this late, have been out for a while, health not at par with inside desires. During my research, now going for almost 5 years, I have tried to save a lot of info for when after the book is published. This. in order to have the space to explain why certain casinos and chips are not what some claim to be. But, this one really bothers me.The MOP MC is not from the Morocco Club. The Morocco Club belonged to the Corsican Mob (the same one some authors claim were used as mercenary in the assassination of Kennedy/of which I know nothing about!), originally a French mob which arrived to Cuba via Canada. It was a relatively young club which Lanski "allowed" to exist in exchange for other deals outside of Cuba and the casino was more of a front for the foreign mafia than a true moneymaker. So the chips, like everything else were relatively cheap and only clay was used. This group of 3 chips made out of MOP with the letters MC appeared only about 2 years ago or so. They are a long rectangle, a short rectangle and a circular one. The combination and shape suggests that these were not gaming chips but rather dividers, broker's chips or some type of marker. Something quite uncommon in Cuban casinos. No records of anything but clay chips have been attributed to this casino and certainly there is zero evidence of these chips being connected with the Morocco Club.
Westen, I hate to bust your bubble since you were not responsible for associating these simplistic letters to a casino that existed 80 years ago, but it was time somebody cleared this. A significant portion of Cuban chips have letters rather than name, and most of the names attributed to chips found 90 years after being used, and with letters like, C.A., M.C, RA, E.L.P., and no other information, are erroneous and are usually named that way because a seller wants to increase the value of the chip or a collector wants to feel that his chip is important. I am sorry but the MOPs M.C., until further notice, are simply "the set of 3 MOP chips with the letters MC; And not from the Morocco club in Cuba.
