The United States prior to that had also cancelled a huge debt owed to it in excess of 1 Billion dollars.
With the cancellation of this debt, Haiti theoretically should have been left with a surplus of several hundred million dollars annualy. This is the amount that it had been paying the U.S towards the debt.
To the best of my knowledge no visible improvements were made, no real help was given to those that need it most. So where did these monies go?
Now, the countries of the world have pledged an additional 4 billion in aid to rebuild the country. Of course the U.S heads that list once again promising to provide 1 Billion of that
My question is, when is enough enough?
Can we afford this?
Why are we the worlds grandparents to have to continue to support the world at a time when WE can least afford it.
Yes, it's only a billion but as someone once said, a billion here, a billion there and before you know it, it will add up to real money. When will it stop?
The part that most annoys me is that in many cases the thanks we have received was to have these nations spit in our eye
