I have saved the matches with the "hole" distinction too, but I now believe they were just from different parts of the large sheet of printed cardboard that was later turned into matchcovers. It probably had something to do with the pins that engaged the sheet and moved it along the printing or cutting process. I have never found any differences in the printing of the covers.
