Independent voters is good point and not one I addressed in my post. I completely agree that they hold sway in future elections but I am not convinced that they are as unified as one may think. Take 10 very liberal/conservative issues: I believe in 5 and against 5 & you disagree with the 5 I choose but agree with the 5 I don't YET we are both considered independent.

The independent voters help get Mr. Obama elected over Mr. McCain and move both the House & Senate more towards the left. Will the independent voter change his/her mind and move the balance of power back to the right where it was in the early 2000s? I was the policies of the conservatives that set the stage for these events.

I stand by my prediction that there will not be a massive house cleaning in November but I do believe the Democrats will not have same sized majority. I think it will get closer to 50-50 again.

As a budding historian I find the whole thing extremely facinating.
As an American I find it very disheartening that our elected officials are poor leaders.
As an independent I will vote for those I believe will do the best work possible - which means right now I have very few choices.

Time will tell, November is a long time, things will change.
We can only hope for the better.
