Their business practices should be investigated. I had several domains that wanted to let the go. As a result, I didn't bother to renew them. After 30 days of the domains expiring, I was sent a collection letter.

The problem is that 1and1.com will auto renew all domains and will not allow you to cancel/release them until the following year. AS SOON as 30 days lapses on your account, your account goes into immediate "collection" handled by a collection agency that they are affiliated with. They do not send out 2nd notices nor do you get any warnings whatsoever. That is their business plan... to force you to pay for another full year of domain costs.

As soon as you get the collection letter notice, they will not allow you to discuss your account or payment methods with 1and1.com account representatives. You are immediately directed to their collection agency. Their only goal is to squeeze another full year worth of fees/costs from you. If you even attempt to discuss anything with their collection agency personnel, you are treated very rudely even though I tried to be nice and did not provoke them in any way.

I would highly recommend anyone thinking about using 1and1 to do a google search and look for "1and1 collection agency". You will see many others have had the same experience that I had.
