Yes, A.C. has many faults ... just like I'm sure Hackensack has as well. I have much optimisim that A.C. will rebound... but probably not to the high point level that existed previously. True; market share has diminished significantly among A.C. casinos and will continue to do so when Revel opens. Even Borgata will be affected by a new player in town. Competition is not just from other states, but from among A.C. properties as well. Unfortunately, more people who come to A.C. don't experience the whole city and attempt to get off the Boardwalk once in awhile and try to visit the rest of the city and nearby surrounding areas too ... including you and Judy.
As for your specific question; "If Atlantic City prospered for 25 or so years and now as a result of outside competition, the price of gas, smoking bans, weather, voodoo and whetever else you want to blame, what have they (meaning the casinos) done to either protect or get back market share?" ... I can't answer that question Bob. Casino management makes the rules. Some of these guys and gals are supposedly the smartest in the business. If they don't have the answer to your question ... and come to the conclusion that it doesn't pay to keep giving away the store ..., then I don't know who does. Certainly the disgruntled players who don't write out the expense checks don't know. Business decisions are made by the suits based on numbers. The current attractive incentives being offered by the competition to gain new players will stop as soon as those new suits realize they can't continue to do that and the playing field will become level once again, albeit diminished. I think the Atlantic Ocean, the beaches, beach bars, shopping areas, Convention Hall, Boardwalk Hall, and the Boardwalk itself will remain aa a tremendous draw for visitors from all over the world to come to A.C. The town IS being cleaned up and major improvements are made each year. For those who have not been to A.C. in the last 5-10 years (and who are listening to disgruntled voices) you will be amazed at the improvements in town. To them I would suggest ... come see for yourself! I would be happy to serve as your tour guide.
