~~~ her sister worked in Reno and were asked if they wanted to take on work at the Flamingo. They did, and she explained to me that her sister was given a "white" chip that said "Grand Opening" that were given out. If I remember correctly, her sister had asked for another chip for her... I think (there may have been three calls in all) she said that they stayed somewhere down town and went back to work when the casino reopened. None of the chip dealers/collectors believed the story... and one said that the term "Grand Opening" wasn't used way back then (I don't know; never collected much Las Vegas material)... I don't remember anything about the chip being dated, but I seem to recall her saying that "they were like the other chips" and when I asked... "like a metal center" she said yes. Most of what I gathered from the calls (either collect or on my Toll-Free number) was that she was fishing for a value... and I think she either told me, or I heard frome someone else... that she finally sold both chips to someone in California. I never heard anything else about those chips (or the woman) up till now. There were many crank calls during the years I had my 800-mumber from those who said they had chips to sell, but this one seemed to be the most interesting... yet never an outright sales pitch; just her fishing for a value.
