Michigan looking to cash in on sports betting

The state of Michigan is the latest hoping to extend its gambling sector into sports betting.
An organization called “Michigan Is Yours” has backed a proposal that would allow seven additional casinos to be built in the state, the Associated Press reported Friday.
The proposal needs more than 380,000 signatures before July 5 in order to make the voting ballot. If the petition does make it to the ballot and is approved, sports betting would be allowed at all Michigan casinos.
The group has stated that it would use some of the tax revenue earned from gambling to assist in paying for college scholarships and promote state tourism.
Michigan currently has 22 casinos. Gambling expansions require local and statewide votes unless they are under the Indian casino umbrella.
