Last I heard was the chips were still in the cage. I would imagine at the cost of production they wouldn't be in that much of a hurry to destroy them.

I'm not sure of Nevada gaming regulations but if I were running the casino, I would put the chips back out on the tables knowing well how popular they were and how many had already walked. Then a short time later post a redemption notice.
I would almost gaurantee that a large portion of them would never be redeemed and thusly offset if not cover their initial production cost
