I thought I was the only chipper crazy enough to work in radio. I started very early (like age 17 or so) when a friend had the midnight shift at a station in Milwaukee. I got my first start in college at the university radio station WUWM (try to say that fast 3 times!) in 1970 and then at WQFM in downtown Milwaukee where I worked 3PM - midnight engineering. It was an easy listening station that played 4 hour tapes continously. My hardest job was running occasional commercials and working on the college homework.
Being trapped 36 hours a week with nothing to do means my homework was always turned in on time. That $2.50 per hour helped pay for books and my bad habits for several years.
