Newbie has a question of value...
In the mail today I received my new 4th edition of The Official US Casino Chip Price Guide, and my email delivered my brand-spankin' new CC and GTCC membership number R-8119, so I'm ready to get serious about fun! I read the responses to the "So why do you collect..." earlier, and like most it started casually, grew a bit, then got more serious and now here I am. It's fun, but like so many things, sometimes it's more fun when you "keep score."
For many of the chips I have (150 or so) I use the Guide, but I was disappointed that they didn't include Michigan's casinos (I had an old copy of edition #2 and knew they didn't review Indian casinos). I also have some foreign chips (mostly Canadian - Windsor and one from Egypt) and some tokens. Of course, they're not reviewed in this book, either.
I know that there are some smaller publications that specialize in areas not covered (like Washington, Florida, etc. - and I have a few of those), but...other than looking at eBay (always a dicy thing to do when trying to judge "value") are there other sources to be found for tokens, indian casino chips, foreign chips, and the like? I found an ashtray guide (got 2 old Cactus Pete's ashtrays and I don't smoke) and some glasswear from Harold's and El Rancho. I like to scavenge (is that a word?) the flea markets and antique shops for that rare find (picked up 2 Club Cal-Neva chips from BMT* a few weeks ago) and that kinda kicked off the desire to join (been thinking about it for 2 years).
So here I am, and if you can help with the question of "values" I'd appreciate it.
