My ex business partner would sooner give a bum on the street a buck knowing full well that he would most likely put it towards getting a bottle of booze.
While I don't totally agree with him, his philosophy was that at least he knew where the dollar was going and that he (the bum) was getting every cent.
While it may not specifically apply here, you should see how much of a percentage fund raising organizations take before the charity in question sees a single red cent.
I recall reading an article where a priest was being interviewed. He was asked how he could allow an organization to take 90% of the monies collected (yes that is an exception not a rule) His reply was, the 10% we do receive is 10% we never had before.

In relation to Haiti, yes, I too have contributed to the relief efforts perhaps not as much as you but like you, I too have compassion for peole in need. At the same time, I dont believe that it is the job of America or Americans to save the world only to receive our thanks in the form of having these countries pi$$ in our faces.
Yes, it is a moral obligation to help our fellow man in need but it is also NOT our responsibility to rebuild their countries.

I recently read a piece and I think I made a reference to it on this board where Haiti owed this country 1.9 Billion.
John Benedict pointed out that they were repaying the debt at the rate of $50 Million a year.
Yes, that was true up until 6 or 7 years ago when the balance of the deby of 1.2 billion was forgiven.
Now the question I must ask is, if they would then have a surplus of $50 milllion for the last six years, what has been done in this country during that period with this money.
