In relation to Haiti, yes, I too have contributed to the relief efforts perhaps not as much as you but like you, I too have compassion for peole in need. At the same time, I dont believe that it is the job of America or Americans to save the world only to receive our thanks in the form of having these countries pi$$ in our faces.
Yes, it is a moral obligation to help our fellow man in need but it is also NOT our responsibility to rebuild their countries.
What has really gotten under my skin is the countries that have been critical of American efforts yet they themselves standby without letting their purse strings loosen
I recently read a piece and I think I made a reference to it on this board where Haiti owed this country 1.9 Billion.
John Benedict pointed out that they were repaying the debt at the rate of $50 Million a year.
Yes, that was true up until 6 or 7 years ago when the balance of the deby of 1.2 billion was forgiven.
Now the question I must ask is, if they would then have a surplus of $50 milllion for the last six years, what has been done in this country during that period with this money.
Looking at the people and the conditions even prior to this recent catastrophe, I tenfd to think the answer is nothig
