The past 300 years of gaming encompasses from the days of mother-of-pearl counters used for whist by British aristocrats in the 18th century to the computer driven slot machines of today. There are a multitude of web sites devoted to casino chips and dice, slot machines, and the newest casinos. There are also some devoted to casino history. With some of the new software offerings it is possible to have site visitors contribute content as well as engage in the forums and informational articles. The bottom line is that I am putting together a web site focused on gaming history and artifacts and dependent on visitor participation. The site is currently "under construction" but also at a point were it is usable and in need of recommendations.
The key will be people who wish to contribute informational articles in their areas of interest or expertise. Anybody can be an author and also participate in the forums. There are almost no forum categories at this point and this is where I need the most input. I have some basic ideas but would be interested in what potential members would like to see. Keeping in mind that the purpose of the site is both for the historical as well as collectible interests. For instance, gambling in the Old West could include Faro and ivory chips. There could be articles on Gambling in the Old West, How Faro was Played, and forum discussions on ivory chips.
International subjects and participants are welcome as well.
There is also placement of 468 X 60 advertising banners available for FREE. This deal is just to get things rolling and banners placed now will be rotated free until June 30, 2010. Presumably traffic will increase enough to merit paid advertising eventually to support the site.
And before I forget to mention it, the site is 300yearsofgaming.com
Thanks,
Don Knight
