Once a coin gets this gunk on it, it is toast. It no longer has any collector value. If you clean the gunk off, which will not totally clean off because the gunk is a result of a chemical reaction with the surface of the coin, the cleaning will leave a tell tale and easily recognizable scar on the coin. Since the coin has no value anyway, you can try it and see what happens. I would like to see the cleaned results.
