For those who don't know the story, the 's esteemed auctioneer, Jim Kruse, retired after this year's club auction. To send him off with a bang, David Spragg (with the help of Jay Sands & Terry Shaffer & one or two others) came up with a plan to auction off a ficticious "San Manuel error" chip. The bidding was fast & furious, with Mr. Kruse accepting the bidding into the thousands!! I remember sitting next to Greg (we both knew about this plan) and both of us trying so hard not to start laughing. It could have gone on seemingly forever...until David announced that he had a phone bid of $XYZ which Jim accepted and then after a bit of thought said "Hey...we don't accept phone bids!!". The room erupted in laughter. One of the highlights of last year's convention, to be sure!!
