Having attended several other G2E Shows in the past, I noticed that they are very "business attire" oriented. Nearly 100% of the vendors wear coat and tie (which are mostly men) and a big majority of attendees are like suited (pardon the pun).
Being a bit of a jeans and polo shirt (with sneakers) kind of guy, I was wondering if I might make better connections and rapport with the vendors by wearing a suit at this years G2E. Turns out that I would have been better off to use a different last name!
At the Abiatti booth I picking up some of the flyers and brochures and then made contact with one of the sales representatives; a female. I asked if I could please have a sample plaque and she said, No. I can take a hint and turned to walk away. In doing so, my wife (Pam) was right behind me and I told her, as I passed by, I did not get a sample. With that, Pam walked to the very spot I was just at and began talking to the same sales representative. Almost immediately the young lady asked Pam if she was Italian (Abiatti is out of Italy) and Pam's last name is Focazio.
well, after a few minutes of casual conversation, Pam walked away with these samples, compliments of the sales representative! Unfortunately for me, Pam likes plaques and jetons!! (But she did give me the sample swatches of plaque and jeton colors that were also given to her! )
BTW - The suit did cause more vendors to come forward to me whenever I stopped at a booth, but it did not yield a greater amount of samples. But I still had a great time and thank my sponsor!!!
Thanks for looking!!
