Collecting tokens is what led me to poker chips... and wooden nickels and scrip. I now call myself an "Idaho redeemables" collector. If you limit yourself to one area, as you may need to for financial or sanity reasons, then I could see where chippers could loose the tokens in their collections. I did not join the club for a long time because I thought that the chippers were losing non Nevada chips and possibly non Vegas chips in general. However, I found that even though that Vegas chippers are the huge majority, rural Nevada and the other states are still there and active. As a token collector I can tell you that tokens are still just gearing up with a big boost from the internet and have a long ways/life to go.
I have asked for Idaho chips and information before but I am also very interested in Idaho tokens (not stated on most tokens but many were used as smaller denominational poker chips. A huge source of tokens, bars and cigar stores are also where the poker chips have shown up.)
