Once again, I'm regretting that I didn't take more pictures when I had the chance
We used to stay at the Plaza, and I used to love to sit by the window in the room, just looking down Fremont Street (before the FSE was constructed).
They used to have video poker machines near the front doors, and I spent hours and hours on those machines, playing video poker and watching the arrivals and departures...
One night I was gazing out the window in our room and saw an odd entourage coming down Fremont Street. There was a pickup truck towing a convertable, with two police motorcycles escorting them. What the....????? I'd gone upstairs because I was loooooooooosing all my money, but I had to go back down when I saw the entourage pull in under the dome of the Plaza.
Turned out to be Billy Ray Cyrus in the back of the convertable, waving to everyone. Not being a Billy Ray fan, I didn't hang around to watch. I still had most of a roll of quarters in my pocket (which gives you an idea of how long ago this was!), so I headed over to play video poker. If this were a book with a happy ending, I'm sure my luck would've turned and I would have hit a royal flush ...however, being reality, I lost the rest of the money that was in my pocket and I went back upstairs. After that evening, I was even less of a Billy Ray fan!
Another time I was heading to the Plaza and saw crowds of people...turns out they were filming "Casino" and Sharon Stone was visible...if I remember right, she was wearing white boots and a white fur coat (it was a bit chilly that evening)...
