I guess that would all be proof.
However the reality is that that is just not going to happen - apart from the fact that the casino is closed, even if it were open if I went back now 10 years later to ask why did you use this particular chip once instead of the regular rack I suspect that they may not agree, or even if they did would not be prepared to give me documentation to say that they believe it was not used. None of that changes the fact that the chip came from that casino. And to be blunt, if that isn't enough for other people then that is not an issue for me.
Not trying to be awkward, but I guess there will be so many chips where this level of proof will not, and may never, be available and where casinos are closed, even more difficult. And as many, including Gene below, have mentioned, the records are just not likely to become available to the hobby so that will be the case possibly for ever.
So the end result is that people will have to make their own decisions as to whether a chip really is from a certain casino or not. From my personal perspective, if I know a chip came from a casino because I personally got it there, that's plenty of proof for me even if I don't have the level of proof that others may want. For other chips, I place trust in those that I know have more experience than I do and I respect their views. If that leads to an entry in one of the currently respected guides then that's enough for me. I accept that there is a small chance that there could be an error, but that is a risk that I am personally prepared to take. The reason I do this is because if I didn't then I would only be able to collect current chips from casinos where I personally obtained the chip.
All just my view of course, but the one the views that I use for my collection.
I suspect that we will not be able to agree on this, but I guess that's just life - it would be boring if everyone agreed about everything!
