Mr. Perlowski -- I agree with a good many of your points, including recognizing David's contributions. As a current BoD member, I can say that we all appreciate David's efforts these past few years. The issue with recognizing one person's efforts in an all-volunteer organization is that there are so many that really should receive some special recognition -- past & current BoD members that served numerous terms, our club's legal counsel, past & current magazine editors & staff, people that have served as committee chairpersons, etc... WAYYYYYYYYYY too many to name. Even someone like your nemesis, Mr. Trimble, who not only has provided support to this club through contributions & volunteering, but even more importantly through him providing information as he has. It's so great to see the responses that his recent "Illegals of ..." bring, especially from some of the newer members.
So what do we do?? How can we reward one or a few when we really need to reward them all? As a member of this fine club that is reaping the benefits of all that have given, currently give & will give in the future, all I can do is say "Thank you". It may not be enough, but sometimes it is. Out of all of the BoD members, I feel like the luckiest because I'm the one that the members contact most often. On occasion, people are rude...but for the most part, our members really are appreciative. Every quarter I get at least five or six notes along with the renewals saying "Thanks for what you do"...much better than any plaque.
Thanks for your post, Jim.
