One of the sellers currently on said that the chips were used in the first season. In one of my previous posts I showed some scans of chips from the pilot episode, and they were not the chips currently for sale. I will go through the rest of the first season to see if these chips show up, but I highly doubt it. They wouldn't bother to change the molds on chips when they couldn't be sure the show would go beyond the pilot, let alone more than one season.
I am not going to sit through the rest of the show's other seasons looking for these chips.
I would like to know how many chips of these questionable chips the GGS made - that might give a clue as to what they were used for.
I don't think they were ever used as background chips. Why wouldn't you make the same chips as the ones used in close-ups? You're not saving any time or money changing the mold.
IMO, they were probably made for home poker chips for NBC employees or for give-aways to their clients. Until I see one of this type of chips screen-captured from an episode of the show, I don't consider them props.
