I kind of have simular experiances. My grandfather was a expert hunter and fisherman. If I caught a fish, and wanted to keep it, I had to clean it for dinner. He showed me how to track and hunt, clean fish, slaughter pigs, and skin just about every type of animal. But, like Gene, I hated the killing. This haunted me the rest of my life, as I coped with the years of service as a soldier. Should have been a accountant, I always liked numbers and excelled in math. My professor said I was a natural. Problem was I didn't like school.
