As far as I know this is the highest price ever paid for a chip ... from the Bahamas. It is a £1 chip from the Bahamian Club and it sold on eBay for $1,136. The Bahamian Club is the only casino known in the Caribbean to have issued chips in the "£" denomination, both £1 and £5. The £1 chip was unknown prior to this auction. The Bahamian Club was a small members only casino that was only open during the winter tourist season pre World War II until the late 1950's. When the mob was kicked out of Cuba by Castro, the first casino they moved in on in the Caribbean was the Bahamian Club and it then became the New Bahamian Club. Soon after, the mob took over a hotel on Paradise Island and transferred the New Bahamian Club's gaming license there. That hotel became the Paradise Island Casino and it is now the Atlantis, the largest in the Caribbean. Congrats to the buyer and the seller. Remember that in an auction there had to be at least one other individual willing to pay nearly the winning bid amount. So there is tremendous demand for rare Caribbean chips. FYI ... I was not one of the bidders on this auction.
