All casino chip pricing guides have their issues. Casino chips have many manufacturers and therefore, apparently, many unknowns due to questionable, non-existent record keeping or the information has yet to be found. Origins of some chips may be unknown; what casino or gaming/gambling establishment used which types of chips; when certain types of chips were used; where a chip may have been used, if used at all; etc. These issues make it difficult to properly evaluate and effectively price some casino chips. Literally, there are "unknowns". So, why not state this in the guides? Why make any reference of a chip to a particular casino by using "attributed to"? It is speculation, assumption, heresay, or conjecture. Guides should just deal in the facts at hand. If it is "unknown" as to who made said chip, where said chip was used, when it was used, or if it was used at all, create a separate section in the guide and state the obvious "inconclusive" or "unknown at this time".
And yes, there are apparently several cases where some guides contradict each other and other cases where the guide is changed or updated in its next released edition to reflect new information or evidence. That, I believe, everyone can accept - guides being updated because research has found imperical evidence that gives a chip its actual origin, manufacturer, when and/or where it was used if at all.
To better help newcomers into this hobby, there has to be less confusion. Making it easier, more definitive in describing chips would help greatly. Example: this chip = this casino; that chip = unknown at this time ~ research pending...
