I got one of the emails today from Travelocity about $186 flights from Nashville to Vegas. Figured that it was waaaaaaaaay too early to book but I enjoy checking out the rates occasionally just to keep an eye on things. The last few years rates have done nothing but go up as the time gets closer and I don't know if this year will be any different or not. So here is what I found. Yes you can get to Vegas on a cheap rate but the rate code apparently ends on June 23 so you got no way to get back. I figured I would check Southwest even though I knew they were only booking out to March. Surprise they now go out to June. Well the third of June at least. The worst part about not being able to book Southwest is that they have $206 RT rates out in May. And that $206 is a bargain since they don't charge for bags. I don't know why Soutwest suddenly has such cheap rates to Vegas since they have been running closer to $300 lately. Maybe things are getting slow again. I do know from many years of experience that November is the best time of the year to book a trip. I guess everyone is thinking about turkey and Santa and not travelling. I remember in the 1970's booking a Thanksgiving time trip to Vegas for $35 from Milwaukee. Don't think we are ever going to see fares like that again.
