Simply toss those remarks; it's nothing but 'pitch' to some.
Jeff, you came here (and elseware) to ask and learn... and in doing so you have spoken to and received proposals from the most honest Playboy collectors in the field based fairly on what they knew of $500 examples existing prior to your find and the $250 bid on eBay. Believe me, if anyone here thought that the $500 chip was worth more than the $250 bid, they would have made it known by bidding higher.
Regarding the term RARE... I see nothing wrong with it in this case... especially since the only backup $500s known and held by those in the Casino Industry are notched. It's something the manufacturer did when they included actual casino chips in their samples packets to the UK and Europs years ago. There is even an example known with three drillholes.
Personally (as I stated above), I think you've goten the exposure you searched for and the responses that followed by those who were truly interested (the $250 offers) in the $500 chip... and as I also noted; you do not need to sell all 31 chips at once. Which means that nobody in their right mind who bought an exampe of the $500 chip from you at the $250 level will flip it for less... The value of the chip will only increase, but you have to let one out, first... and my suggestion is to consider the person who bid the $250, first.
