Matt,
I think that you are off base when you imply that chippers got together and conspired to not bid on the Playboy chips. I am certainly interested in the chips and would have bought them for a reasonable price and I gave Jeff what I thought were reasonable prices. Jeff never responded to my request to buy a set of them. I certainly did not have a single conversation about these chips to anyone and that includes my friend who only collects Playboy chips. I kept everything I was told to myself.
In my opinion the chips didn't sell on eBay because:
1) The minimum bid prices were too high. The seller thought that he was going to get rich for having done nothing other than to have a relationship with someone who happened to be involved with the Bahamas Playboy casino when it closed. Translation - greed.
2) Chippers were concerned about how many chips were available, this coming right after the huge hoard of Atlantic City Playboy chips came on the market. If you bought a $500 Atlantic City Playboy chip at the pre-hoard price of over $1,000 and then got burned when the hoard came out and the chip was then only worth $10, would you then be so fast to buy one of the Bahamas Playboy chips?
3) The economy stinks and a fewer collectors are around and fewer still are interested in paying premium dollars for casino chips.
