While walking through the Fremont this evening, I noticed new (at least to me) Paulson 25c chips on the dice tables. There were only 2 stacks on each table. I noticed one table was a $3 minimum, so I quickly figured the bets that would require a payout of 25c chips, namely placing the 6 or 8 for $3 or playing the odds on a 5 or 9 point for $5. I have in the past had problems obtaining chips at the Fremont, so I knew better than to just ask for change. So, I bought in, and started playing the line, and placing the 6 and 8. An 8 hit first, and I was indeed paid $3.50. When another 8 came up, the dealer asked me to give him back the 2 quarters so he could give me $4. I just told him to pay me the $3.50, which he did, somewhat hesitantly. When I took them, I held up the quarters and just said "souvenirs". He actually told me I couldn't leave with them. I repeated that I would not return them, and then asked him to take my place bets down, as I now know I won't be paid even if they hit. He gave me back my bets, but turned to the boxman, said something, and pointed to me. The boxman then started talking to a pitboss. I'm expecting security to escort me to the back room when the shooter makes his point, thankfully, and I pick up my line bets and go right out the exit. I still have over $100 in uncashed Fremont chips. I felt like a criminal when this was over, but I ask, did I do anything wrong?
