The chips thought to have come from Fred’s Bar were supposedly made for Jim’s Bar and, the initials B(backwards J) came about as they represented Jim’s Bar J Ranch. The new owners of Fred’s Bar used the Jim’s Bar chips.
The history: Murphy’s Bar (no gambling) was close to the corner of Highway 52 and Murphy Street which is approximately 1 mile from the California border. Murphy’s Bar became Jim’s Bar which in turn became Fred’s Bar, owner Fred Callihan. Fred’s Bar burnt down and relocated to the area in close proximity to what is now Irene’ Bar.
Fred’s Bar (BL) (Bar J Ranch) is listed in The Gaming Table, it is noted that they opened in 1948 closed 1970 and used chips with the zigzag mold, well within the time the zigzag chips were being produced. Do I have the distribution records from Noll & Company, no but who does, they are certainly needed?
