Until you are sure which way you want to go, my advice is to hold onto the chips. Since they are obsolete, they may be difficult to replace. Don't get rid of them until you are sure you don't care about the difference. You would hate to regret it later and discover you can't find the variation you traded away.
As for which way to go, only you can determine that. I don't care for common chips, but I have kept both variations for unusual chips in my main collection (Aruba).
